With San Diego Comic Con ’14 coming up in a couple weeks, it’s that time of year again for fans to get reveals upon reveals upon reveals of upcoming movies, comics, TV shows and more. With massive franchise homes like Disney set to show off what they’ve got up their sleeve for movies like Avengers: Age of Ultron and Star Wars: Episode VII, it’s safe to say we’ll also learn a bit more from Warner Bros. about their upcoming plans for DC Comics-based movies.
You can guarantee 2014 is the year Warner Bros. will finally unveil their official timeline for the long-awaited Justice League franchise, which started last year with the Superman reboot Man of Steel, and has quickly grown more and more anticipation for what else is in store. A few weeks back, a copy of what could very well be the studio’s DC plans through 2018 was revealed online, and it is likely we will see a similar list announced at Comic Con.
While Justice League is set for a tentative 2017 release, it is still fairly far out; the most anticipated DC project being Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice which is set for a May 2016 launch. There’s been a lot of buzz from fans eager to see Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman costume, what Jesse Eisenberg will actually look like as a young Lex Luthor…..or really anything we can get our hands on. Back in May, the movie’s director Zack Snyder tweeted a picture of what Ben Affleck will look like in his new Batman costume (along with the new Batmobile), which has since received a solid amount of positive feedback.
Apparently surprising fans a bit before SDCC, USA Today has just released an exclusive first look at Henry Cavill in the Superman costume he will appear in during Dawn of Justice. And from the looks of it, the Man of Steel is in Batman’s domain of Gotham City…. Check out the pic below:
Even though this one is in color (unlike the previously-released Batfleck pic), the tone of both definitely match up with dreary, rainy settings. I would have to assume that a solid amount of Batman v Superman will take place in Gotham at this point, and there is nothing wrong with that. As for the actual costume, there are very minor changes from what we saw in Man of Steel, but overall Cavill looks a lot more toned (hmm, as if he were about to go head-to-head with another hero).
Talking about working with both Cavill and Affleck as two iconic super heroes, Snyder seems to be having a blast, saying “It’s never really been done and it’s kinda cool.”
What do you think of Henry Cavill’s new Superman image? Stay tuned for more reveals for the movie.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is set to hit theaters on May 6th, 2016, directed by Zack Snyder.
