I was just announced that Mark Romanek (One Hour Photo) will direct an upcoming film adaptation about the Boston Strangler. Actor Casey Affleck is set to star in the film.
The Boston Strangler was a curiously complicated case of a murder of thirteen women in the Boston, Massachusetts area back in the 1960’s. Though Albert DeSalvo confessed to the alleged crimes, his confessions were often confusing, leading officials to believe that the murders were committed by multiple people, not just DeSalvo.
This could be a very interesting story to see on screen. Though a film was made in 1968 under the same name, it would be nice to get a refreshing take almost four decades later. Chuck Maclean wrote the script for the film, which has been noted as similar to Zodiac or Seven, two great murder thrillers.
It is uncertain whether Affleck will play the Strangler himself, or part of the Boston law enforcement in charge of taking the murderer down, though I’d rather see him take on the role of the man himself DeSalvo.
