‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ Casts Two New Unknowns!

Next year, Star Wars: Episode VII is set to bring back a handful of household names, as well as newcomers both to the franchise and to big acting gigs.  Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford & Carrie Fisher will be joined by John Boyega, Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver in what seems to be J.J. Abrams paying homage to the original trilogy of films.

Although you may know the former three names like the back of your hand, before the first Star Wars film released in 1977, all three were relatively unknown.  Perhaps another way of making Episode VII a tribute, Disney and Lucasfilm held open casting calls across the U.S. and U.K. which saw 37,000 unknowns audition.

Now, Lucasfilm has announced that two of these lucky individuals have been cast in Episode VII!

Crystal Clarke (right) is an American actress who has both screen and stage acting experience.  She will appear in her first feature, The Moon and the Sun in 2015.  Pip Anderson (left) is a British actor, who specializes in performing parkour.  He is known for his work in an ad for 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man, which you can watch below:

Here’s what Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy had to say about the two new additions:

“The Star Wars universe has always been about discovering and nurturing young talent and in casting Episode VII we wanted to remain absolutely faithful to this tradition. We are delighted that so many travelled to see us at the open casting calls and that we have been able to make Crystal and Pip a part of the film”

It is unclear who Anderson and Clarke will be playing in Episode VII, though it’s not surprising as Lucasfilm has yet to announce any of the newcomers’ roles in the film.  Are you excited to see some fresh talent on board for Star Wars?

Star Wars: Episode VII hits theaters on December 18th, 2015, directed by J.J. Abrams.
