There may be a lot of talk about a Bill Murray-less, Ivan Reitman-less Ghostbusters 3 that’s been in development longer than anyone must care to recall. However, there has been no official word on when we will see the next installment, which will most likely arrive a whole 25 years after Ghostbusters 2 in 1989. And that’s at the earliest.
On a better note for the franchise, this weekend (June 8th) marks the 30th anniversary of the first Ghostbusters, which came, saw, and kicked ass way back in 1984. The classic comedy/horror has stood the test of time, proving popular with fans of generations since.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary mark of Ghostbusters, it has been announced that the movie will be re-released theatrically on August 29th, hitting 700 theaters. Along with the re-release, fans will also get to enjoy 30th Anniversary merchandise and events across the country.
It was also announced that Ghostbusters will be getting a new 30th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray release, with the same going for Ghostbusters II, celebrating its 25th anniversary. Those will arrive in stores on September 16th. It is also the first time ever that the sequel will be available on Blu-ray.
The two-movie collection will be available in a Limited Edition Gift Set, featuring both movies on Blu-ray, as well as a Slimer figurine. See the picture of the package below:
What do you think? Suddenly this is looking a lot better than any Ghostbusters 3.
