Although it has yet to be officially confirmed, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has hinted for the past year that a Doctor Strange film is definitely happening. Most have speculated that this could probably see the light of day during Marvel’s Phase 3 (between Avengers 2 & 3), which means we could see the Sorcerer Supreme as soon as 2016.
A few months back, it was revealed that Marvel was looking at a shortlist of directors to helm the project, which at the time included Mark Andrews (Brave), Jonathan Levine (50/50, Warm Bodies) and Scott Derrickson (Sinister, The Exorcism of Emily Rose).
Now, Variety reports that Derrickson is Marvel’s top choice to direct Doctor Strange; and that even though they are in the early stages of negotiations, we should respect a deal to “be struck shortly”.
With news like this coming in early June, it would only make sense that we get some sort of official Strange announcement at this year’s San Diego Comic Con next month. My guess would have to be an appearance by Feige and Derrickson, as well as a title card and- who knows- maybe even the casting of the sorcerer himself?
What do you think? Is Scott Derrickson a good choice to join Marvel’s Cinematic Universe?
