It’s been a tough week for Marvel’s upcoming Ant-Man film. First, director Edgar Wright left after being the driving force to get the project into production for nearly a decade. It was then announced that Marvel was looking at a shortlist of replacement directors, including Adam McKay, Rawson Marshall Thurber, and Ruben Fleischer.
A report soon after stated that McKay was the frontrunner for the job. It made sense, seeing as he has previously worked with the film’s star Paul Rudd on Anchorman and its sequel, and is good at bringing comedy and action together; as seen in his film The Other Guys.
It didn’t take any longer for McKay himself to take to twitter to say that, while he did meet with Marvel, things weren’t going to work out for him to direct the movie. See below:
That leaves Thurber and Fleischer. However, another report this weekend stated that Fleischer is being sought after to direct the upcoming Ghostbusters 3. If Fleischer ends up choosing ghosts over ants, then that leaves all but Thurber; director of We’re the Millers and Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story.
Odds are Marvel will have to make an announcement soon as to who will be taking the director’s seat, especially if they are still aiming for their July 17th, 2015 release date; which is slowly closing in on being just a year away.
Who do you think Marvel should choose to direct Ant-Man?
