‘Captain America 2’ Blu-ray Release Date Announced, But It Won’t Feature a ‘Marvel One-Shot’

Marvel Studios peaked the interest of fans when they first started releasing original short films, deemed “One-Shots” back in 2011 when the first Thor movie hit DVD & Blu-ray.  Since then, these One-Shots have done wonders for the studio; adding extra material to either tie up loose ends from the feature films, or even to boost the importance and likability of the MCU’s characters.

Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson is perhaps the biggest name that comes to mind, who, after being the star of the first two One-Shots (The Consultant and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor’s Hammer), went on to receive his own TV series on ABC (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.).

Following the same footsteps is Hayley Atwell as Agent Carter; a supporting female character in the first Captain America movie who, after being given her own self-titled One-Shot, will star in a new TV series on ABC as well (also self-titled).  Other One-Shots have teased possibilities for future stories, such as All Hail The King starring Ben Kingsley, and have with no doubt helped Marvel boost their home video sales.

It was announced today that Captain America: The Winter Soldier will arrive on Blu-ray and DVD September 9th, but oddly enough will not feature an extra One-Shot.  EW first reported the news.

This comes as a bit of a surprise, seeing as though Marvel’s cinematic universe is growing more and more expansive by the year.  The potential for magnifying supporting characters, new stories or filling plot holes seems too great as more and more movies and TV shows are released.  Some have hoped for a One-Shot that would feature The Winter Soldier himself, or Brock Rumlow; who will most likely become the villain Crossbones in the near future.

What do you think?  Should the Blu-ray for Captain America: The Winter Soldier feature a One-Shot?
