Here’s a Team-Up: The Coen Brothers Will Pen Steven Spielberg’s Cold War Thriller, Starring Tom Hanks

A few weeks back it was announced that Steven Spielberg would once again be teaming up with Tom Hanks (previously working together on films like Saving Private Ryan, Catch Me If You Can, and The Terminal) on a new Cold War-era drama/thriller.

The story will follow Tom Hanks as as James Donovan, an American attorney enlisted by the CIA during the Cold War to slip behind the Iron Curtain in order to negotiate the release of Gary Powers, a pilot who was captured after his spy plane was shot down in Russia.

It appears Spielberg will shoot this Cold War flick in September, so that he can move on to his next project, a film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s novel ‘BFG’ in 2015.

However, the Cold War project (unlike many of Spielberg’s recent works-in-progress) seems to actually be moving forward, as he has tapped none other than the Coen Brothers (Joel & Ethan) to pen the latest draft of the movie.

Although the Coen Brothers are best known for writing for their own films, it’s kind of hard to imagine anything written by the Coen’s, starring Tom Hanks, and directed by Steven Spielberg could be anything short but brilliant.

Are you excited for this team-up?
