Any and all info regarding the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII has been kept air-tight so far, leaving everything to the imagination of fans. Director J.J. Abrams calls this a way to “preserve the unexpected”; though with the movie set to start production just a few weeks from now in May, it is very likely that we will start seeing and hearing more about the latest Star Wars installment soon enough.
It was recently reported that Episode VII would start filming in Morocco next month in order film scenes that would bring back the Skywalkers’ home planet of Tatooine. However, it seems that some filming has already started in Abu Dhabi. The National posted pictures yesterday of what could very well be set pieces or props for Episode VII. The photos can be seen below:
So far, people are guessing that this large, wheel-like prop could be part of the escape pod that C-3PO & R2-D2 took to Tatooine in the first Star Wars in 1977. Others have speculated that it looks more like the foot of an AT-AT Imperial walker, like in The Empire Strikes Back. I personally think if either it would be the latter, but why would AT-AT’s be on Tatooine after originally being stationed on Hoth? Also, it’s safe to assume that the walkers would not have any further use after the fall of the empire. See the pictures of the classic escape pod and AT-AT below:
