A live-action adaptation to the popular 80’s franchise Masters of the Universe has been in development since 2009, though the project has yet to find its footing. Going through writers and directors as if they were tissues, Columbia Pictures seemed to be settled on John M. Chu (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) to helm the film.
However, Chu abandoned the project, and has since taken rejuvenating yet another 80’s franchise; Jem and the Holograms. (And I know what you’re thinking; why would anyone choose Jem over He-Man in a modern world?). Nevertheless, Columbia has since been searching high and low for a new director.
THR now reports that the Masters of the Universe relaunch is finally moving forward (once again), with Kick-Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow set to rewrite flick. Although Wadlow is penning the movie, rumors surfaced that he may be sitting in the director’s chair too. It was confirmed that Wadlow has no deal to direct, though it “remains a possibility down the road”.
An earlier draft for Masters of the Universe was put together by Terry Rossio, co-writer of the Pirates of the Caribbean series, as well as The Lone Ranger. It is unclear at this time just how much rewriting Wadlow will do for the movie, or if he will actually end up directing or not.
What do you think about Jeff Wadlow stepping in to rewrite Masters of the Universe?
