2015 is full of sequels, prequels and reboots, shaping up for one hell of a year for fans of franchises. While Avengers: Age of Ultron and Star Wars VII top the list of most-anticipated flicks of next year, there are plenty more reasons to jump around in excitement for what’s to come at the movies.
One of those being the fifth installment in the Terminator franchise, called Terminator: Genesis. The movie, set to be released on July 1st of next year, will see the return of famed actor of the series Arnold Schwarzenegger, who will once again lead in the title role. The cast also includes Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty), and Jai Courtney (Divergent).
A problem some people have speculated was how exactly Arnold’s character, the T-800 killing machine first introduced in 1984, would fit into the latest installment, with a plot that is set to revisit the timeline of the original film. Especially now that Arnold is 30 years older at age 66. However, in a recent interview with the Governator, the actor stated that the filmmakers aren’t planning on ignoring his age, and will have a full explanation as to how his character will fit into the universe with an older appearance.
Here’s what Schwarzenegger had to say to MTV:
“Terminator deals a lot with time travel, so there will be a younger T-800 and then what that model does later on when it gets reprogrammed, and who gets ahold of him. So it will be all kinds of interesting twists in the movie.”
Genesis is set to revisit the era of story told in the 1984 film, with Emilia Clarke set to play Sarah Connor and Jai Courtney playing Kyle Reese, so it is unclear of just how the plot will unfold involving Arnold’s character, and will remain that way until we receive an official synopsis. Arnold also spoke more in-depth about his characters’ appearance in the new film:
“The way that the character is written, it’s a machine underneath. It’s this metal skeleton. But above that is human flesh. And the Terminator’s flesh ages, just like any other human being’s flesh. Maybe not as fast. But it definitely ages.”
What do you think Schwarzenegger’s character will be like in the upcoming Terminator: Genesis? Stay tuned for the latest info regarding the film.
