In 2005, Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller brought us Sin City, a film adaptation to Miller’s graphic novel series of the same name. Now, nine years later we will be receiving a sequel to the neo-noir thriller, entitled Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. Filmed in mostly black-and-white and containing brutal, stylized action, Sin City proved to be one of the most well-adapted comic book films to date.
With the original film starring Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, Jessica Alba, Benicio del Toro and Elijah Wood, A Dame to Kill For will add Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Josh Brolin, Eva Green and Lady Gaga to the already-stellar cast.
Now, according to Rodriguez, the pair are so confident that A Dame to Kill For, set for release on August 22nd, will be such a hit, that they’ve already begun planning Sin City 3. In a recent interview, Rodriguez had this to say about a possible third installment:
“Yeah—the second Sin City– I was just here with Frank Miller last night and we were watching it last night. [We] finished the cut, effects are being done, it will come out in August.
“He [Miller] watched Part 2—he watched it last night with me and then at the end he said, he didn’t have any comments, he was very happy with it. And he said, now about part three…. Started telling me how he’s going to do part three. So he’s already there on part three.”
While fans may be so excited to finally see a Sin City sequel that a third movie may sound nice right out of the gate, it all depends on how A Dame to Kill For actually performs in the box office (like most films). But the fact that Rodriguez and Miller are so hopeful and enthusiastic about continuing the franchise means that a third is pretty much guaranteed at this point.
What do you think about a Sin City 3? Tough to tell without seeing A Dame to Kill For, but are you excited about the news?
