It goes without saying that Seth MacFarlane’s 2012 comedy Ted was received much better by fans and critics than many would have guessed. Grossing a worldwide $549.3 million on a mere $50 million budget, obviously a sequel would be a possibility soon after.
MacFarlane will indeed be releasing a sequel, Ted 2, on June 26th, 2015. And now, Deadline reports that MacFarlane has tapped the talent of Amanda Seyfried for the female lead in the film. Seyfried will also team up with MacFarlane this Summer in his comedy A Million Ways to Die in the West.
A lot of people may be wondering about the absence of Mila Kunis, who played the female role in the first Ted movie. Deadline also states that the idea of casting Seyfried is simply a creative decision, and that MacFarlane and Kunis still have a healthy working relationship. But this still doesn’t answer the question of why Kunis won’t return for the film (at least not starring). Ted 2 is still being written, so we can’t and won’t know for sure until at least later this year.
The reason Kunis not having a major role in the sequel sounds odd is because she was the long-time girlfriend of Mark Wahlberg’s character John, and at the end of the first film they got married. But don’t fret, Wahlberg will be returning to star alongside the animated teddy bear.
What do you think about Amanda Seyfriend being cast for the lead female in Ted 2?
