Your Friendly Neighborhood Movie Blog
Hello fellow readers and subscribers of Reel Freak, and welcome to the long-awaited, all-conquering Friday. It’s what we all strive towards, and to some people, Movie news helps us through the week that much more.
So now that the weekend is upon us, let’s take a look back at this week in Movie. I’ve taken a handful of stories from the past few days and will give a brief run-down for each.
– Guardians of the Galaxy Trailer Hits the Web:
After months of keeping fans waiting, Marvel Studios finally released the first trailer for their upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie. The trailer premiered on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Tuesday night, and has since gone viral, with a lot of acclaim from fans. It’s shaping up to be a very promising addition to Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, and we can expect to see the next big trailer attached to Captain America: The Winter Soldier in April. The trailer can be seen below:
– Cast of Fantastic Four Reboot Revealed:
Perhaps one of the least-anticipated superhero movies on the roster, Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four reboot hasn’t necessarily been sounding too promising. FOX still has its hands on the movie rights, which could arguably be best utilized if they were in the hands of Marvel Studios. The first big update on the reboot, Variety reports the four actors to play Marvel’s first family in the upcoming film. Miles Teller is set to play Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, Kate Mara as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, and Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm/The Thing. An interesting choice aiming towards a younger cast, but all four are great up-and-comers. So who knows, this could turn out to be a decent film after all.
– New Godzilla Poster Revealed, Shows Full-Scale Godzilla
The latest official poster for the upcoming Godzilla film hit the web this week, giving us our first good look at just how large this version of the monster will be. In comparison to skyscrapers, it is clear now that Godzilla will stand high above the city, and will be that much more difficult to conquer. This is a great poster with a great version of the monster we’ve all been hoping to see. The poster can be seen here, and see Godzilla in theaters starting May 16th.
– First Close Look at Green Goblin in The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Set to hit theaters on May 2nd, we’re getting new looks at The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on a weekly basis at this point. The latest photo from the film gives us our first clear glimpse at Dane DeHaan playing Green Goblin. In previous trailers we’ve seen DeHaan as Harry Osborn, but just brief shots of him suited up as Goblin. The photo looks great; Goblin looks freaky, insane, and out to get Spidey. Will definitely be cool to see on-screen.
– Casting & Director Rumors for a Doctor Strange film have begun
Before Marvel Studios’ 2014 films have even been released, nothing is stopping fans from looking forward to the future of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe. Speculation and rumors have begun to circulate regarding a probable Doctor Strange film, most likely in 2016 or 2017. Sources say that Marvel’s shortlist of possible directors includes Jonathan Levine (50/50, Warm Bodies) and Mark Andrews (Brave). As for casting, the latest rumor is that Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale, Hannibal) is a person of interest to star as Doctor Stephen Strange. Again, nothing set in stone, but these are the latest rumors.
– Jai Courtney Cast as Kyle Reese in Upcoming Terminator: Genesis
It was reported this week that Jai Courtney will star as Kyle Reese in the upcoming Terminator reboot, Terminator: Genesis, after previously being in talks for the role. Courtney has previously worked as a supporting actor in action films like A Good Day to Die Hard and Jack Reacher, and will now join Schwarzenegger, Emilia & Jason Clarke in the upcoming sci-fi film.
– Set Photos of Jurassic World tease return to the Island
Another franchise reboot, Jurassic World is about to start its production. The film will continue in real-time with the original trilogy, occurring 22 years after the first film (released in 1993), and will star Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy, The Lego Movie), Bryce Dallas Howard, and Ty Simpkins. The first set photos were revealed by OnLocationVacations, and tease a return to the Hawaiian island where the original Jurassic Park too place. This could be yet another successful resurgence to a popular franchise, looks like it’s being planned very well so far.
– Michael B. Jordan & Miles Teller Attached to New Heist Film from Tom Gormican
In other news involving Michael B. Jordan and Miles Teller, The Wrap has reported that the two actors are now attached to a new heist film from Tom Gormican, director of That Awkward Moment, which both actors starred in as well. The film is set to be distributed by Warner Bros. Apparently the movie will be in the same vein as more fun heist films, such as Oceans Eleven. The two actors seem to have chemistry, and I’m excited to see as many projects as possible from both.
