After 2009’s hit-or-miss Terminator Salvation, fans hoped there was still a way to save the Terminator franchise and give it one final try. Though it’s been talked about for a few years now, the fifth Terminator film is finally in the works.
The working title for the upcoming movie is Terminator: Genesis, and will be directed by Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World). Though the plot has been kept under wraps thus far, we do know that Arnold Schwarzenegger will make his return to the role of the main Terminator from the first three films, Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) will star as Sarah Connor, and that Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty) will play John Connor.
Now, we learn from Variety that the film has found its Kyle Reese. After a few months of choosing between actors (also including Boyd Holbrook and Sam Reid), Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions have announced that Jai Courtney (A Good Day to Die Hard) will take on the role of Reese, a member of the human resistance who, in the first film, was sent back in time to protect Sarah from the Terminator.
With all of the main characters from the first film set to return in Genesis, I’m curious to see what the exact plot will be.
Jai Courtney is best known for his supporting roles in Jack Reacher, A Good Day to Die Hard, and the STARZ series Spartacus: Blood and Sand. He’s definitely an up-and-comer for action films, and I’m glad he’s finally been cast to appear in the new Terminator flick.
What do you guys think of the casting of Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese?
Terminator: Genesis is set to hit theaters on July 1st, 2015.
