So far, 2014 has looked promising as far as casting goes for Marvel Studios’ upcoming film Ant-Man. We’ve learned that Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, and Michael Pena will star in the film, set for release on July 17th, 2015.
Now, Variety reports that Marvel may be looking to Evangeline Lilly for the film’s lead female role. The Canadian actress, 34, most recently appeared in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smuag, and will reprise her role in The Hobbit: There and Back Again, the final film in the Hobbit trilogy, later this year.
Though Lilly is in talks to star in the film, it is unclear who she would play. Some may guess it right away that it’d be Janet van Dyne/Wasp, who is Hank Pym’s wife in the comics. But since Michael Douglas, 69, is playing Pym, it’d be quite the odd match-up.
Variety speculates that Lilly could play Pym’s daughter, who would also be Scott Lang (Paul Rudd)’s love interest.
It doesn’t surprise me that director and writer Edgar Wright might change the story up a bit. I’d personally love to see Wasp be Pym’s daughter instead of wife, and Scott Lang and Wasp could marry instead. But that’s just me, I complain too much when it comes to Marvel Studios news.
What do you think of Evangeline Lilly up for a possible role in Ant-Man?
