Your Friendly Neighborhood Movie Blog
When it comes to movies, the cast is one of the things that attract viewers at first glance. So when an ensemble with some of Hollywood’s most popular names is in the works, you’re pretty much obligated to at least read into it. Here, we have Triple Nine, an upcoming heist film from John Hillcoat (Lawless, The Proposition).
Previously, it was announced that the film would star Academy Award-nominated actors Chiewetel Ejiofor and Casey Affleck. As if they didn’t have you hooked just a bit with those two names, we now learn that they will be joined by Kate Winslet, Michael B. Jordan, Aaron Paul, Teresa Palmer, Michael Pena, and Gal Gadot.
Triple Nine will follow a group of corrupt policemen who end up on the wrong side of a blackmail threat from the Russian mafia. They are tasked with taking on a dangerous and difficult heist.
Deadline also reports that Open Road Films has acquired the domestic distribution for the upcoming film. Open Road is a more recent studio, owned by AMC Theaters and Regal Entertainment Group, and having already backed films like The Grey, Jobs, Homefront, and The Nut Job.
With Jordan coming fresh off the success of his remarkable performance in Fruitvale Station, Aaron Paul expanding his career after a massively successful starring role in the acclaimed series Breaking Bad, and Gal Gadot recently cast as Wonder Woman in the upcoming Batman vs. Superman; this is going to have huge potential overall.
I don’t know about you, but to me this sounds like it can’t miss. I’m eager to hear more about Triple Nine very soon.
