Just when we thought we knew all of the basic info regarding The Amazing Spider-Man 2, a new character is announced. It was announced today by director Marc Webb that actor B.J. Novak (who was cast for the film last year but whose role was not announced) will be playing character Alistair Smythe in the upcoming Spidey sequel.
For those of you who don’t know, Alistair Smythe is a recurring villain in the Spider-Man universe who is best known for designing and creating the Spider-Slayers, a group of robots set to take down Spider-Man. In the comics, Smythe is forced to use a wheelchair, and comes up with a way to transform his disabled body by creating the Ultimate Spider-Slayer.
While it is unclear whether we’ll actually see the Spider-Slayer robots on-screen, especially with all of the villains packed into the film already, it’s most likely that Smythe will work for Oscorp.
A comment I read from someone who I really enjoy and believe is that Smythe could be the man behind the creation of Rhino’s huge mechanical suit shown in the trailers. Makes a bit of sense, right?
Novak will join mega cast of villains, also including Jamie Foxx as Electro, Paul Giamatti as Rhino, and Dane DeHaan as the Goblin.
What do you think about character Alistair Smythe’s addition to TASM2?
