With production for Avengers: Age of Ultron set to start up in the next few months, we’re beginning to learn more and more each week about the upcoming blockbuster. Now, we learn the Avengers sequel will shoot scenes in both Korea and Italy. The news comes from a press conference today with Governor of Valle d’Aosta, Augusto Rollandin.
More specifically, one of the locations includes Fort Bard, a rectangular fortress in northern Italy. “Ford Bard and Aosta Valley will act as a ‘set’ of many scenes” says Rollandin, though no details as to which scenes would be filmed there. As for Korea, KDramaStars says that:
“At least 10 to 15 minutes of The Avengers sequel will take place in Gangnam and Gyeonggi-do. One of Korea’s top production teams has already been chosen to work with the Hollywood film production crew.”
Last year, writer and director Joss Whedon spoke of the upcoming sequel’s scale, hinting that today’s news would surface sooner or later. “It’s very much a global Avengers film”, he explained, adding “A lot of the movie has to do with their place not just in America, but the world”. So this news is definitely good to hear, and can only mean good things.
It’s definitely possible that Ford Bard in Italy could act as a home or base for recently-announced villain Baron Von Strucker, leader of European organization HYDRA. Korea’s scenes are rumored to be the location of some sort of disaster sequence.
Recently, it was announced that Age of Ultron would film scenes in South Africa, sparking rumors that we may get either an appearance or a hint at native hero Black Panther. It was also announced that the United Kingdom would be one of the filming locations as well.
What do you think about these new filming announcements? Is the film’s “global” take a good thing? (Of course it is, but I want your opinions too)
Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron is set for a May 1st, 2015 release, directed by Joss Whedon, and starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, James Spader, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Maria Hill, and Samuel L. Jackson.
