Although we’ve still got about two years until the release of the much-anticipated Star Wars Episode VII, not a single casting announcement has been made by the studios. All we really know about the film is that it is directed by J.J. Abrams, and that it will be released on December 18, 2015.
There have been a lot of rumors over the past few months as to who could be cast in the film, the very latest being Jesse Plemons, mostly known for his role as Todd in the hit TV series Breaking Bad; who may in fact be up for a leading role in the film. Having also worked on several other television shows and appearances in films over the past decade, he is best known by his nickname “Meth Damon” for his Breaking Bad character.
Now keep in mind these are just rumors, though they are extremely surprising. Plemons would not necessarily be my first choice for a Star Wars film, let alone a lead role. But again, this is all just a rumor which could diffuse in a matter of days.
The Wrap, however, reports that Plemons sent the studios a successful recorded audition, and that he has been asked to return for a live audition. Also, there was no specifications as to what role he may have auditioned for. Since this is all speculation and a pretty vague rumor, no one officially tied to the film has confirmed this.
I’ll have to admit, it would be odd to see someone like this starring in my favorite sci-fi franchise, but that wouldn’t have any effect on the way I view the film itself. For now, we’ll see, and I’m sure over the next few months we’ll get at least one or two pieces of useful news regarding the upcoming sequel.
Star Wars: Episode VII is set to hit theaters December 18th, 2015, directed by J.J. Abrams and released by Walt Disney Studios/Lucasfilm.
