It was recently announced that Tyson Ritter, frontman of the band The All-American Rejects, will star as Gregg Allman during his younger years, in the upcoming biopic Midnight Rider: The Gregg Allman Story. It was also announced that actor William Hurt will portray a present-day version of Allman.
This comes as a bit of a surprise, but could be a diamond in the rough. It was announced that not only will Tyson Ritter act as Gregg Allman, but he will also provide the singing voice too, given his ability to. Actor Wayatt Russell (son of Kurt Russell) will play Gregg’s brother Duane Allman, and will also provide a singing voice for his role.
Along with his career with The All-American Rejects, Ritter has also had a bit of acting experience, appearing in TV shows and films such as House, Parenthood, and The House Bunny.
The film will be based on Gregg Allmans’ recent autobiography My Cross to Bear, and will be directed by Randall Miller.
What do you think of this choice? At first this headline made me do a double-take, but after thinking about Ritter’s ability to sing as well as act, and also looking at pictures of him and seeing certain similarities, it doesn’t sound like an awful idea.
