It is hard to imagine how difficult it must be when a star of a film dies in the middle of its production. Following the unexpected death of Paul Walker back in November, his upcoming film Fast & Furious 7 was put on hold, but not cancelled.
About a month later, it was announced that Fast 7 would see a release in April of 2015, pushed back from its original July 2014 release. However, one question still remained; what would the film do regarding Walker’s character Brian O’Connor? A lot of rumors spread about different possibilities, some of which included writing the character out of the series properly, or even having a new actor come in to take over for Walker. It’s hard to go about deciding something like this for a character who’s been very popular for over a decade now.
Now, it appears that the film will officially retire character Brian O’Connor, using footage already filmed prior to Walker’s death. I think this is the best path to take for a situation like this, rather than killing the character off in a car crash, which may seem too eerily similar to the cause of Walker’s actual death.
What do you guys think? Is this the best choice for director James Wan to go about the late actors’ character?
Fast & Furious 7 is now set to hit theaters on April 10th, 2015, directed by James Wan, and starring Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Paul Walker, and Jason Statham.
